Air is the element of freedom, the Air Nomads detached themselves from worldly problems and concerns, finding peace and freedom is the key to solving their difficulties in life. Airbenders continually sought spiritual enlightenment, and, as a result, all children born into the Air Nomads were benders. The first airbenders learned their art from the flying bison, it is also said that the airbenders had borrowed the arrow mark from the flying bison for their traditional tattoos. These tattoos symbolize one’s mastery of the airbending art, and are given to a practitioner once their training is complete.
The key to airbending is flexibility and finding and following the path of least resistance. Airbending is notable for being almost purely defensive, as well as the most dynamic of the four bending arts. Airbenders can overwhelm many opponents at once with large and powerful attacks that could prove fatal; however, due to the pacifist nature of the Air Nomads, such attacks are rarely used. Due to aforementioned spirituality, they often adapt to the situation surround them and prefer to dodge an opponent instead of a direct attack.
A specialized form of airbending in which the bender is able to generate massive amplified sound waves with the help of airbending. This is a great skill however, and only masters of airbending or the Avatar himself can complete such a task. Along with the help of a waterbender, an airbender can manipulate clouds easily to create various shapes, using it as a defense or protection over someone or something. All airbenders have gliders that help them fly through the air, they channel the air through the gliders and with stronger winds, multiple people can be carried for short distances. Staffs are illegal for airbenders to use in Republic Nation unless they are messengers or scouts to help non benders. Airbending is the only bending art that has no specific sub-skill or specialized form.
Airbending is the most passive of the four arts, as many of its techniques center around mobility, evading and eluding the opponent. Along with this, the Air Nomads also taught pacifism. Earthbending is the direct opposite of this. While the airbenders avoid or deflect oncoming attacks, earthbenders absorb them or overwhelm them with superior force. Airbenders are constantly moving in circles, while earthbenders require a firm root in one place to effectively bend. However, firebending is the spiritual opposite of airbending. Airbenders are passive and peaceful, while firebenders are aggressive and passionate. Like all of the bending arts, airbending is balanced out as to not be more or less powerful than the other arts, though it is easily the most dynamic and agile of the four. It is the skill and power of the user that determines victory.

Consider this my tribute to A:tLA.
I could write a million paragraphs about what this show means to me, but I’ll just say this: Katara and Sokka helped me stop hating my skin color.
PoC representation is important, guys.
Never, ever dismiss race as “just skin color”. Never dismiss anyone who talks about race on tumblr as some mindless rabid SJ warrior, either. Those “SJ warriors” you make fun of aren’t oversensitive nuisances, they’re real people with real experiences and valid emotions.
Race is important. Race is more than skin color. Race is culture, race is ethnic background, race is your mother tongue, race is people who look and talk like you. Race is family.
I’ll try to shut up now, but dear fellow fanartists, I must beg you to not whitewash characters. Please. Don’t whitewash.
In a world that stereotypes people of color all the damn time, positive portrayals are crucial. And when you whitewash, accidentally or not, you’re denying people of color like me the chance to be real people with real personalities and experiences in the media. I’m tired of being your stereotypical Indian call center employee/job thief/oppressed brown girl that needs a white saviour.
That’s basically why I love A:tLA as much as I do.
Thank you, Bryke. by *tsukia-KARI
